The Young Readers
Cincuenta en la cebra/Fifty on the Zebra is a colorful counting book, written and illustrated by Nancy Maria Grande Tabor. There is much more here than learning numbers. Each page, with a separate column of text in English and Spanish, asks the reader short questions about the picture. The format develops math and language skills and is informative and fun.
School Library Journal
A brightly colored, bilingual counting book, with the Spanish version (in black) and the English (in blue) printed side by side on the bottom halves of the pages. The simple, child-like illustrations give the appearance of paper cutouts pasted on construction paper. Four-to-five questions are posed per page, asking youngsters to count candles, leaves, armadillos, and more. A concluding question per page will allow for further discussion, e.g. "Would you prefer to be a fish or a butterfly?" Large public libraries with a need for counting books may want to add this title.
