Ainissa Ramirez, PhD is an award-winning scientist and science communicator. A graduate of Brown University, she earned her doctorate in materials science from Stanford, where she studied the field of friction. She began her career as a scientist at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey and received six patents. She later joined the faculty at Yale. It was there that she began a science program for kids called "Science Saturdays", a lecture series based on the 3Ds of doughnuts, demos, and dynamic talks. It was also at Yale where she shifted her energies to making science understandable to audiences of all ages.

Ainissa has written for Time, Forbes, The Atlantic, and Scientific American. She has appeared on CBS, CNN, NPR, ESPN, The History Channel, and PBS. Plus, she speaks internationally and gave a popular TED talk on the importance of science education. She has also hosted two science video series as well as a science podcast, and her expertise in communicating science to the public has been lauded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the American Institute of Physics, and the American Physical Society, for which she was elected a Fellow. Currently, she writes children's science picture books.
