Though the category is well past capacity, German (Cupcakes, Cupcakes & More Cupcakes!) makes a solid contribution to the snack genre in this collection of cookies and bars for all occasions, tastes, and skill levels. Whether bakers opt for classics like linzers, brownies, and gingerbread, the formidable Hamantachens, or why-didn't-I-think-of-that treats like Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich cookies, there are enough surprises here to keep cookie-lovers entertained. Though there are some puzzling entries (her New Year's Pop Rock Cookies call for almost a cup of the iconic candy and seem more like a dare than a genuine recipe) and her Almond Horn cookies employ ground hazelnuts rather than almonds, she makes up for it with can't-screw-up recipes for Cinnamon Twists, a four-ingredient, kid-friendly treat using puff pastry; and the three-ingredient Milk Chocolate & Cornflake Fingers. Bakers interested in expanding their cookie repertoire will appreciate twists like Tehini and Agave Cookies, Pistachio Cardamom Cookies, and the Argentinian Alfajores, a sandwich cookie calling for Dulce de Leche. Cookie-lovers of all skill levels will appreciate the breadth, making it something they can turn to again and again as palates mature and skills strengthen. Though slim, the book deserves a slot on any serious cookie-baker's shelf.
Sugar Pop Ribbons
My family loves eating cookies. But, I am actually more interested in eating them than making them. Luckily, with Cookies, Cookies & More Cookies in my hands, baking cookies for my family is not such a chore anymore. This book contains more than 75 recipes from different cookies. If you want healthy cookies, there are recipes for them. If you want to bake cookies for different holidays, there are recipes for each one. In this book, you can find recipes for traditional cookies as well as some non traditional cookies. Each recipe comes with a photo of what the cookie would/should look like and I have to say that they all look delicious.
I went through the book to find something I would like to bake. It was really hard to settle on just one, but I ended up making the raisin and rum cookies. The instructions were easy to follow and the cookies turned out great. Sorry I don't have a photo of them, my family ate them all before I remembered to get a photo for this post.
I am looking forward to baking more cookies and trying out the different recipes in the book. If you love to bake and your family loves cookies, I would recommend picking up a copy for yourself.
